So it's happened...I've managed to contract a ridiculous cold. I've been battling minor symptoms for the last several days, but this morning it hit full force. This probably has something to do with the fact that my friends and I trekked through the snow for 20 minutes last night while looking for our hotel, and then stood outside for another ten because reception was closed and we had to maneuver the key out of a lock box.
I took the opportunity to make a stellar snow angel in a parking lot and complain about how I left Maine to escape snow. When we finally got inside it was warm and the room was awesome and we had a really fun time just chilling out together. This morning we had to make our way back to the tram, and this time there were a few solid inches of crusty snow on the ground. I sniffled all the way to the tram, and then we saw that it wasn't running because of the weather. We managed to hop a bus back to town, but it was slow and ended up dumping me in an area I don't know well. I managed to find my tram line and buy some soup and then I got home.
I've been in my room all day just chilling out and blowing my nose and sleeping like I would if I were sick at home. A few minutes ago I decided to make my soup, so I headed down to the kitchen. Once there I came across a man I haven't met before who very kindly asked me if I was sick. Oh boy. I must look like crap. I said, "oui, j'ai un froid." Which is a horrible butchery of the French language. He taught me the word for a cold (le rhume, as opposed to le froid which means cold as in the temperature) and then helped me open the ridiculously confusing carton of soup.
As much as it sucks that I'm under the weather, it really is beautiful here with the sun shining through my skylight and snow dusting all the buildings. I'll make my way back out into the world after I've done some homework, but for now I'm enjoying the view and the fact that I am in this gorgeous country for the next few months.
Take care of yourselves and drink lots of fluids.
