La Joie De Vivre

Alright, new resolution: I'm going to actually proofread my blog posts before putting them up.  I apologize for all the horrid misspellings and grammatical inaccuracies you've had to suffer through up to now.  Exhaustion is no excuse to forget the serial comma.

Hokay.

Now that I've gotten to the point where I'm pretty much completely comfortable in my new environment, my adventurous, follow-the-green-lights personality is blooming (if you have never spent an afternoon walking around a city in whichever direction has a green walk light on, you are sorely missing out).  There are streets to explore, boulangeries to try, people to talk to, and churches to investigate.  The sun is shining and all I want to do is walk around and find things I've never seen before.

Yesterday some friends and I met up to look at air/train fare for international trips.  They're all decently expensive, but when will I have the chance to see these places again?  Not for a few years at least, and they're so close now.  We have two week-long breaks, and most people already have plans for the first break so I'm going to contact all my European friends and probably go stay with one or two of them for that week.  The second week there are several of us here that are deciding between hitting up Eastern Europe, or heading south to visit Spain and Italy.  While they both sound phenomenal, I'm leaning toward sunny Spain and possibly floating around Venice in a gondola.

While a few people did the actual research for prices, a couple of us headed out to find an antique market.  We ended up getting directed to a different market (it was a huge, sprawling farmer's market with everything a good farmer's market should have), and then we went to FNAC to pick up books for our classes.  The rest of the afternoon was spent going over travel ideas, chasing down secondhand clothing stores, and visiting a giant mechanical elephant.  We then headed to Addie's house to have an indoor picnic and play Scrabble (in Frenglish).

The evening consisted of wandering around my neighborhood trying to find a good hangout spot.  There are several bars and cafes, but they were all closed.  Since it was Saturday night, I'm assuming they are permanently closed.  The night culminated in a wonderful philosophical discussion on a street corner.

I'm looking forward to spending the afternoon today wandering around Nantes, tracking down a new place to eat, and maybe doing a bit of writing or sketching.  France makes me want to be an artist, though try as I might all I can produce are doodles.  Maybe today will inspire me to create a masterpiece.

I hope you are all doing well and treating yourselves to some good food and relaxation.

Stay safe.
