I always find the people in airports and on planes fascinating. I’m currently 40,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean (I’ll copy and paste this to my blog when I have a chance), and I am having a truly awkward plane buddy situation. I usually try to say something to the person next to me, or at least smile at them, but the girl beside me sat down and immediately put her coat on backwards with the hood over her face. She’s been sitting there like that for nearly 5 hours. She’s definitely still alive under there (she took a short break to read a book in Japanese for a few minutes and got up to use the lavatory once), but I’m kind of confused. Is this normal behavior for international flights? I haven’t been on enough of them to know.
This definitely beats my last plane buddy though. I was working on my novel (which is currently about 5 pages long and needs some serious TLC) and he kept leaning over to read what I was writing. I know writing is a deeply personal thing, and there are probably people who wouldn’t let it bother them, but I just couldn’t think creatively while this random man was leaning over my shoulder.
Then there was the guy who came on board with his girlfriend and promptly fell asleep. After about half an hour, he grabbed my hand in his sleep. So I was sitting there holding hands with this guy next to his girlfriend, trying to extricate myself from his grasp without waking him up because, seriously, he didn’t need that humiliation. I managed to get my hand free, but then his foot kept touching mine…I couldn’t decide which was worse: sleep handholding or sleep footsies.
Maybe I should stop getting window seats. I imagine people on the aisle have more ability to move away from awkward situations, or at least face away, but then there’s the chance that the drink cart will bang into your knees and I know from experience how painful that is.
The only foolproof conclusion I can come up with is that I should just apparate everywhere, but JK Rowling is still holding out on us and claiming that the wizarding world is a figment of her imagination.
Oh well. C’est la vie.
haha this is great my plane buddies weren't nearly as strange/exciting. Hope your traveling is going well so far.
ReplyDeleteI think that I would prefer sleep footsies... less sweat :) I miss you, I'm glad that you are safe and I hope that you are meeting people who aren't as creepy/strange as your plane buddies <3
